OER Birth and Growth

OER Birth and Growth

The initiative that got
us started with this was a grant that we received
from Achieving the Dream for an OER degree pathway. And basically the
idea behind that was that we would create an
entire pathway through a degree program, but use
nothing but OER. So we’ve actually
accomplished that within just the first year of
us doing this grant program. We were the first one to
actually meet that goal. We got the grant in fall
of 2016, and within a year, we were able to produce an
Associate of Arts degree pathway. There were 31
colleges, I think, 32, somewhere in there,
that actually were part of this grant program. There’s a lot more colleges
that are moving to OER. Fall of 2015, where we only
had a couple of classes and a couple of
sections, we’ve gone now to fall of 2017, where we have
30 courses and 75 sections. Really, students
from any program, no matter what you’re taking
at Bay College, if it’s an associate’s
degree-level program, you’re going to
have a class or more that are utilizing OER now.
